Richard started stone carving in 2007 and working in glass in 2009. His interest in mixing different mediums led to him experimenting with wax, metal, taxidermy and glass over the subsequent years.
Recent work has focused on figurative wax sculptures cast in bronze which depict aspects of mental health. Richard has used steel joists, ropes and sheet glass to highlight element of strength, fragility and restraint when mounting and exhibiting his work.
Richard qualified with a BSc in Visual Arts and Psychology, alongside qualified teacher status in 1999. He pursued a career both as an art teacher and later as an Educational child Psychologist alongside becoming a Foster Carer in 2011. Richard has based much of his current portfolio of work on his experiences working with young people and families with mental health difficulties.
