I was born in Cheltenham in England, where I spent four years studying painting, sculpture and design at the then Gloucestershire College of Art, followed by a year’s teacher training. Since that time I have taught Art to pupils and adults alike, and lectured on modern art ( my particular interest) which also took me further afield to New Zealand, Australia, Ireland and the USA.
Major influences on my development as a painter can be traced to 20th century movements, such a Fauvism, Cubism and Expressionism. Colour has always dominated my work, and I would describe myself as a colourist first and foremost, believing strongly that colour forms a language of its own. Some of my paintings record the light and experiences of the South of France, others spring directly from the imagination and memories. The paintings are allowed to emerge freely, thus lending spontaneity to the subjects.
